What
is Shoestring Theatre?
We believe that,
like Duke Ellington's maxim about music, there are two kinds of
theater, good and bad.
(Is Sophocles better than Shakespeare, Moliere as good as Mamet,
Euripides that worse than Stoppard?)
Good theater depends upon the story, the words, and
the actors, in our view. In short, a shoestring approach to
bootstrap some
good theater. We like money as much as the next guy, yet no one (in
their right mind) does theater
for the money,
do they? So, why should productions be about the money spent, the input
instead of the output?
We would like
to try the premise and see where it takes us. Come along and see for
yourselves!
